Seafood recipes that don't have to break the bank

Disregarding fish and seafood because you think it is expensive is a big mistake.

From shrimp and tuna, to white fish pasta bakes and seafood salad recipes, easy fish recipes can be whipped up in no time.

Use these tips to keep gems from the ocean on your dinner table this week.

Frozen is just as good

A simple way to keep the cost down is to look for frozen options.

Frozen seafood is often cheaper than fresh, which helps when you’re on a tight budget, and it still contains all the essential oils and nutrients.

A great tip is to let it thaw in a resealable bag, in a bowl of cold water as this speeds up the process if you're in a rush.

Always pat your thawed seafood dry with paper towel before cooking to remove any excess moisture – there’s no need to wash it.

Crispy fish lettuce cups

White fish is an economic yet healthy way of consuming more fish, but it can feel a little bland sometimes.

Spice things up with these fish lettuce cups and go nuts with the spices of your choice.

A simple taco or fajita recipe is an easy way to whip up some great flavours, just use fish instead of chicken or beef.

If you don’t have gem lettuce, iceberg works a treat, too.

Stock up on seafood for mid-week meals

Fishy bake tray

Weeknights are always busy, and a delicious bake tray is usually an easy win.

Popping some fresh fish, along with an abundance of veggies, pasta, all covered with cheese, is also a simple way to enjoy some seafood goodness.

Combining the fish with the other ingredients means you need less of it, so can often make it go a bit further.

Frozen fish fillets are your friend here. The firm, white flesh is ideal for all sorts of recipes, including easy fish finger batons if that's something your clan enjoy.

Tinned tuna fish is another simple way to keep the cost down.

Tomato fish curry

This is another family favourite that’s on high rotation many households.

It takes just 20 minutes from start to finish – perfect for a weeknight meal. You need firm-fleshed white fish fillets, or fresh or frozen prawns to make things quick and easy.

Fry off the fish, add some chopped garlic, onion and some chilli paste and finish it all off with a few tins of chopped tomatoes and a tin of coconut cream. Easy peasy!
