Boost your day with strawberry goodness
Breakfast together can be a great way to start the day – and the perfect excuse for a family brekkie has to be the news that it’s National Strawberry Day on February 27. While strawberry muffins, or pancakes topped with the juicy berries are wonderful, think past the ordinary and try something fresh, like a metabolism-boosting strawberry smoothie recipe.
Our go-to, five-minute smoothie bowl has just three ingredients and only takes a minute to make. You can even make it using frozen strawberries, but we prefer fresh, juicy ones. Go for naturally-sweet with coconut, chia seeds and fresh strawberries, blitz and enjoy.
What's the benefit?
Strawberries are potent little packages known to protect your heart, increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and guard against cancer. Packed with vitamins, fibre, and particularly high levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols, strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food.
If you're feeling really creative, freeze the mixture in fruit pop cases, for around four hours, to make healthy ice lollies for you and the kids. Mix in two large dollops of Greek yoghurt for a more creamy taste and texture.
