Keep the kids busy this season with these fun craft ideas

The holidays are almost upon us, which means school's almost out and hosting season will soon be in full swing.

Here are some fun and exciting Easter games, crafts, and activities to get you and your family into the spirit of the spring holiday — no matter how you celebrate.

#1 Egg carton crafting

Egg cartons and toilet rolls are so handy when it comes to basic crafting.

They will have your child experimenting with colour, textures and more, and they are a great craft material and perfect for turning rubbish into treasure.

Finish off those eggs and turn them into colourful Easter baskets, flower crowns, Easter egg caterpillars, or even cute Easter bunnies or adorable chicks.

There are lots of guides to follow online but we love the step-by-step guide at Happy Active Kids.

Go ahead, have a go. All you need is: one egg carton, coloured paper, black marker, masking tape, paint, paint brushes, scissors, glue, feathers and googly eyes.

#2 DIY Chocolate bunnies

Such an easy way to spend an afternoon or morning with the kids, and what a wonderful gift for teachers, grandparents and nannies.

Encourage them to create their own designs by picking the chocolate they want to mould.

Choithrams.com offer a fun rabbit-shape and the choice is yours, or theirs, when it comes to flavour.

We love white chocolate with raspberry pieces but anything goes — milk, dark, white or even salted caramel.

Follow the simple steps below:

  1. Break chocolate into pieces in a microwave-safe dish.
  2. Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil, a tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of milk or milk alternative.
  3. Place in the microwave, on high, for 40 seconds.
  4. Remove and stir until melted.
  5. Pour into mould and place in the fridge for up to 2 hours, or until set.
  6. Pop out and stick halves together with a small amount of melted chocolate or chocolate spread.

#3 Make an Easter tree

Kids love decorating trees at Christmas so why not make one for Easter?

Get them outside and searching for a real tree branch, or you can make your own with paper or cardboard.

Then, simply decorate it with colourful paper eggs that you’ve made yourselves, ribbons, and other decorations.

It's an activity for kids of all ages and it could even become a family tradition, with a new Easter egg tree each year.

If it's easier, you could decorate a tree in the garden or on your balcony or terrace.

How to make an Easter egg tree

  • Paint eggs to your liking. Get kids involved and have them create their own special eggs.
  • Make pretty decorations using ribbons and other craft materials — anything goes.
  • Next, arrange the branches on the tree.
  • Hang the decorations onto the branches, spacing them out until the little ones are happy!

Get ready for a fun-filled Easter holiday
