Make some room in the freezer for these tubs, bars and lollies
We're in the midst of peak ice lolly or ice cream weather. If you're not consuming at least one a day at the moment, then what are you doing with your time?
Long gone are the days of simple, fruity slab on a stick. Today, the choice of ice lollies, choc ices and tubs of delicious ice cream is impressive, even if the top choices appear to have remained unchanged for pushing 30 years.
Ice lollies
Perfect for when you need to cool down on a hot summer's day.
They come in all shapes, sizes, colours and flavours and offer a great incentive for getting the kids to eat everything on that plate at lunch or dinner.
Make your own
It is easy to pick up a box at Choithrams.com but making your own can be just as simple, and fun too. Experiment with flavours and add fruit yoghurts, offering a healthy version for the little ones.
Every day is strawberry and raspberry season in the UAE, thanks to fresh, daily imports at Choithrams.com, so have fun with these homemade red fruit lollies. Made with yoghurt and plenty of berries, they're quick and easy to prepare before freezing.
- Tip 400g of raspberries and strawberries into a blender or smoothies maker and blitz to a purée. Add 150g of yoghurt and blitz again to combine.
- Taste for sweetness and add as much sugar or honey as needed – this will depend on the ripeness of the fruit but we suggest around 30g is plenty.
- Divide the mixture evenly between the holes of a six-hole ice lolly mould – they should be filled to the brim. Insert the lolly sticks and freeze for 4 hrs or until solid.
All done, homemade lollies ticked off the list. They'll stay in the freezer for up to. a month — if they last that long.
