Delicious and versatile, take a look at the fruit that wears its seeds on the outside

Fantastic served with a simple sprinkling of sugar or a splash of cream or even just by themselves, the great British strawberry is a popular choice all year round. Unlike some fruits, strawberries don’t continue to ripen once picked, which makes buying slightly ahead of time one of the best options.

From a simple Eton mess to the more complex strawberry tart or meringue pavlova, the strawberry is often the showstopper at any table and can even be used in salads.

Versatility being one of the many qualities of the humble strawberry, they make fantastic milkshakes, smoothies, ice creams and granitas, and due to a high pectin content, also lend themselves well to making jams, preserves and compote.

The ultimate summer recipe

The British classic Eton Mess consists of strawberries with whipped cream and broken-up pieces of meringue. Throw together the delicious dessert in just 20 minutes with this easy four-ingredient recipe.
