Kids will love to make, decorate and eat these fruity treats
The key to cooking with kids is often picking the easiest recipe, something you can let them enjoy, instead of getting lost in the details.
Another top tip is to go for a method which ends with some form of creative decorating - that's the fun bit!
It's always a bonus if there's no cooking required, which makes these fun apple doughnuts the perfect choice for little and big ones.
Just grab your apples and you're good to go. You probably already have more choices for toppings in your kitchen cupboards than you think.
- Mix a few large spoonfuls of soft cheese with a few spoonfuls of runny honey and set aside.
- Slice each apple (side ways) through the core into five or six rings, about 1cm thick.
- Use an apple corer or small round biscuit cutter to stamp out a circle from the middle of each slice, removing the core.
- Pat the slices dry using kitchen paper.
- Spread the sweetened soft cheese on top of each slice.
- Decorate with whatever you fancy. We love chocolate-coated rice crispies, yum.
The recipe works well with nut butter over the slices, instead of the cheese spread. But really, anything goes!
Toppings can include hundreds and thousands, crushed nuts, chocolate sprinkles and much more.
