Saudi German Clinic’s specialist dermatologist says maintaining overall hygiene is one of the must-dos of tackling the summer heat when it comes to your skin
The agents of premature ageing are out in force this summer. UV rays are bad for all living organisms, can damage human eyes and skin, with the damage often long-lasting. However, with a few simple changes we can combat the effects of radiation and live a healthier skincare. These simple tips from Dr Piyu Naik, Specialist Dermatologist at Saudi German Clinic Jumeirah, will help you do just that. Set yourself on the path to healthy glowing skin this summer season.
Water
We really can’t stress it enough. Making sure you consume sufficient amounts of water every day is key to staying balanced all summer. Drink a minimum of two litres of water daily to stay hydrated and flush out toxins that could cause breakouts or other skin issues.
Cleansing
Most people experience increased acne and breakouts during this time of the year. Wash your face with a safe cleanser two or three times a day or as often as needed to make sure you keep your face free of dust, sweat and oil buildup. Rebalance skin every day with Love Beauty and Planet Refresh and Hydrate Face Cleansing Gel. Infused with coconut water, this gentle face cleansing gel leaves your skin naturally refreshed, with a delicate scent of mimosa flowers.
Moisturise
Cleaning your face often strips the skin of essential oils, so hydrating your skin with a light moisturiser becomes necessary. It helps lock in moisture for a lasting effect. People with skin types ranging from dry to normal should consider using water-based moisturisers and for those with oily skin, gel-based moisturises works best.
SPF, SPF, SPF
A quality sunscreen lotion will protect skin from harmful UV rays when venturing out into the sun. A lotion with minimum SPF of 30 is recommended and must be applied 15-20 minutes before exposure.
We love the full Ocean Potion sunscreen range, which is suitable for the whole family. Try exfoliating first to remove dead skin cells and then apply sunscreen for the best protection of new skin.
Maintain good hygiene
Overall hygiene can go a long way in tackling summer woes. Bathing twice a day and wearing loose cotton clothes will help you feel fresh and reduce summer lethargy. It also helps to keep bad odour at bay. The Dr. Teals Pink Himalayan body wash is a great place to start for a natural cleansing experience.
Foods that cool
Choose to eat healthy and keep your body cool with as many seasonal fruits, water-filled vegetables and yoghurts as you can. It is amazing what a difference this can make to your skin all year round, but especially when things really heat up. The name gives it away but watermelon is full of, yes, you guessed it, water! Fresh slices are always a great option but if you're short on time then grab a Goodness Foods freshly-squeezed watermelon juice and hydrate on the go.
Protect the eyes
The sun’s rays are harshest between 12noon and 4pm during the summer months. If you have to be out and about, make sure you have your UV blocking sunnies on.
Create a custom care routine
Your dermatologist can suggest the right cleansers, moisturisers, and sunscreens for your skin type to ensure better protection.
