As temperatures outside reach crazy new heights, nothing beats a night at home with a good series and the AC on full blast
We say dust off the baking trays and whip up a home-cooked pizza, break out the popcorn and ice-cold drinks, and line up your favourite family flick or new television series. Even with Netflix’s recommendation algorithm serving up shows, movies, and documentaries just for you, there's always a host of new releases each month, meaning finding something to suit everyone is easily achievable.
From a rather random new cooking show with Paris Hilton, strong anime releases, and old favourites including Catch Me If You Can and family flick Beethoven, the line-up for August could keep you stuck to the sofa for the best part of this month.
Cooking With Paris
With an anyone-can-cook attitude, Paris Hilton adds her own flair to every dish, and you can just imagine how that goes. Expect edible glitter, flowers and pretty much anything else that would have world-renowned chefs choking on their jus. It's a rather unique cooking show to say the least but worth a watch in our opinion.
Al-Rawabi School for Girls
In a first-of-its-kind for a series for young adults in the region, the trailer for this Arabic production has been doing the rounds and is causing quite a stir. Al-Rawabi School for Girls tells the story of a bullied high school student who gathers together a group of outcasts to plot the perfect revenge on their tormentors. The six-episode series was created and written by Tima Shomali and Shirin Kamal in collaboration with Islam Al-Shomali who also directed. It premieres on August 12 in 190 countries and is available in more than 30 languages.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf
Netflix’s animated movie is almost here with a release date of August 23. According to Netlfix’s description, the movie will focus on Vesemir’s origins as a Witcher, amid attempts to save a kingdom from a strange new monster and confront the demons of his past. A trailer released last month is light on details, but we know that the movie is set to follow Vesemir, a veteran Witcher of Kaer Morhen as most Witcher fans will know. Exciting stuff ahead for the series.
UNTOLD: Caitlyn Jenner
Directed by Crystal Moselle (Betty, The Wolfpack) and told with an extraordinary collection of never-before-seen archival footage, including reels of newly discovered Olympic footage and home videos from the Jenner family, this Netflix documentary is one to watch. Airing from August 24, Caitlyn Jenner traces her life with new insight from winning gold to making the decision to transition to her relationship with her children.
