A melodious gala to close Symphonic Middle East Festival 2022
For the final concert, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra is joined on stage by celebrated British violinist, Chloë Hanslip, featuring works by Beethoven, Brahms and contemporary composer Alexey Shor.
Since her BBC Proms debut at the age of 14, as well as her US concerto debut, aged 15, she has since performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Musikverein, Carnegie Hall, and the Metropolitan Arts Space in Tokyo.
She has collaborated with Sir Andrew Davis, Mariss Jansons, Paavo Järvi, Vasily Petrenko, Vassily Sinaisky, Alexander Vedernikov and Xian Zhang, and is the recipient of Echo Klassik and Classical BRIT Awards. Following Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, the third overture Beethoven composed for his opera Fidelio, the orchestra will welcome Hanslip to present a performance of Alexey Shor’s Four Seasons of Manhattan, a violin concerto in four movements that takes audiences on an imaginative journey through Shor’s experiences of New York’s changing seasonal landscape.
After the interval, the orchestra will return for a performance of Beethoven’s cheerful and ironic Symphony No. 8.
The eagerly-awaited second edition of the Symphonic Middle East Festival runs throughout March and takes place at various locations across the city. Following a highly successful inaugural year in 2021, this edition of the festival has provided a second year of profound world-class music-making, starring renowned performers from the Middle East and around the globe.
In addition to the extensive series of classical concerts throughout the festival, the event has also featured three performances of contemporary composer Alexey Shor’s Crystal Palace ballet, extensive work for the stage based on true events in 18th-century Russia during the reign of Empress Anna Ioannovna.
Concerts take place at Dubai Opera and the Theatre at the Mall of the Emirates, in a bid to promote and develop a love of classical music across the region. Check the full schedule at
